Iran Ceases Gas Supplies to Turkey due to Repairs

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran stopped exporting natural gas to Turkey after Botas Natural Gas Co. requested a halt in supply in a bid to check for a possible pipeline fault.
National Iranian Gas Company Spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh said exports from Iran's Bazargan plant were halted on 22 September, the Iranian Oil Ministry website, Shana, reported.

"The Turkish company Botas has announced examination of the pipeline and possible repairs as the reason behind the request," he said.

Turkey receives about 20 million cubic meters of gas every day via the Iranian pipeline, which links the western city of Tabriz with the Turkish capital.

The pipeline carrying Iranian gas to Turkey is often forced to close due to sabotage blamed on Kurdish rebels fighting Ankara.
