Ahmadinejad Arrives in Sudan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Khartoum late on Sunday to discuss expansion of ties and cooperation in meetings with senior Sudanese officials.
Sudanese officials said Ahmadinejad's visit would focus on boosting political and economic ties between the two states.

During his two-day visit Ahmadinejad will meet Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir on Monday and give a speech in the capital Khartoum, officials in the Sudanese foreign ministry said.

Ahmadinejad and Bashir are due to discuss "bilateral ties and regional issues of common concern".

The two presidents are also due to confer on ways to obviate obstacles on the way of their scientific and industrial cooperation.

Iran and Sudan have increased their mutual cooperation in various fields in recent years.

Sudan has publicly appeared as a supporter of Iran's right to enrich uranium for "peaceful" nuclear purposes.

In 2006, Al-Bashir called Iran's enrichment of uranium "a great victory for the Islamic world" and said that he supported Iran's right to its peaceful nuclear program.

Iran is interested in increasing its investment in Sudan's economy.
