Weary Herakles statue handed over to Turkey

ANKARA (A.A) - September 26, 2011 - The upper part of the "Weary Herakles" statue was handed over to Turkey on Sunday.
Turkey's Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said that the upper half of the statue was brought to Turkey.
"The upper and bottom parts of the statue will then be reunited, and the statue will be exhibited in Archeology Museum after being restored," Gunay said.
The upper half of the "Weary Herakles" statue, claimed to have been smuggled from the Ancient City of Perge 31 years ago, was found at Boston Museum of Fine Arts in the United States.
The statue was brought to Turkey by the plane also carrying Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan back to Turkey from the United States.
It was handed over to executives of Antalya Museum.
The lower half of the statue was found by Professor Jale Inan during excavations near Perge, Antalya, in 1980.
