Number of Syrians taking shelter in Turkey announced as 7,605
ANKARA (A.A) - September 26, 2011 - Number of Syrian people who fled violence and took shelter in Turkey was announced as 7,605 on Monday.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), 46 Syrians crossed into Turkey on September 25 and 26.
A total of 18,568 Syrian citizens have crossed into Turkey so far and 10,963 of them have returned to their country later.
Turkey has spent nearly 17.75 million Turkish liras to provide shelter, food and medical assistance to Syrian nationals.
Syrians are staying in six temporary tent-sites set up by Turkish Red Crescent in Altinozu, Yayladagi, Reyhanli towns and Apaydin village of Turkey's southern province of Hatay.
Hundreds of people have been killed during pro-democracy protests in Syria since January 2011.
