Presidium of World Media Summit to discuss pressing current issues

BEIJING, September 27 (Itar-Tass) - Protection of the mass media's
intellectual rights, the security of newsmen in the insecure world of
nowadays, cooperation and competition in the new media epoch, as well as
the role and tasks of the media in covering natural calamities top the
list of issues to be discussed at a meeting of Presidium of the World
Media Summit.
The meeting is held in Beijing's Diaoyutai state guesthouse. It has
brought together the heads of the world's leading news agencies,
newspapers and broadcasting media, including Xinhua, Itar-Tass, the
Associated Press, Thomson Reuters, the Turner Broadcasting System, Google,
The New York Times, and Al Jazeera.
It is expected that the meeting will be inaugurated by Li Congjun,
Xinhua's Director General. The discussions at the conference my reach out
well beyond the official agenda, the organizers said.
The global news media community that has gathered in Beijing is
definitely concerned about choosing the venue for the next World Media
Summit, which is co-chaired by Itar-Tass Director General Vitaly Ignatenko.
Also, participants in the conference will meet with members of Chinese
leadership and will address a major news conference at the end of their
forum
Beijing hosted the World Media Summit for the first time in 2009. It
was attended by representatives of more than 300 mass media units from all
parts of the globe then.
