Health research forum attracts overseas health researchers

(KPL) The 2nd National Health Research Forum was held to strengthen health research in Laos.
Minister of Public Health, Dr Ponemek Daraloy, Director of National Institute for Public Health, Dr Bounyong Bouppha and overseas researchers from England, Japan, Sweden, Belgium and France were at the opening ceremony. One hundred officials attended this event.
This two-day forum, from 23 to 24 September would focus on how to improve the maternal and child health service and to help the underprivileged people to access the health services.
The topics discussed were malaria, rotavirus diarrhea among children under five, HIV/AIDS, sexual behavioral patterns of the homosexuals in Vientiane, tuberculosis, reproductive tract infections, effects of usage of mosquito nets in Savannakhet province, sanitary risk of pesticides, liver fluke infection and other diseases.
The forum was supported by Ministry of Health of Laos, the Japanese Consortium on Health Research, the Council on Health Research for Development, Concern Worldwide and the Research Institute for Development.
