Seoul shares up 0.5 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 0.5 percent higher late Wednesday morning as foreign and retail buying offset an institutional sell-off, analysts said.
After bobbing in and out of negative territory, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 8.71 points to 1,744.42 as of 11:20 a.m.
Market bellwether Samsung Electronics climbed around 2 percent and its affiliate Samsung SDS jumped more than 5 percent.
In contrast, top polysilicon maker OCI tumbled over 10 percent.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,171.7 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 1.4 won from Tuesday's close.
