Top 50 biz groups take 117 more affiliates under their wings
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korea's leading business groups have increased their number of affiliates over the past year as they sought to expand the overall size of their businesses, the nation's antitrust watchdog said Wednesday.
The number of affiliates held by the nation's top 50 business groups came to 1,432 as of Sept. 1, up 117 from a year earlier, according to a report by the Fair Trade Commission.
In particular, the top 10 business groups held a combined 481 affiliates, up 62 from a year earlier. The on-year increase made up 53 percent of the growth for all conglomerates surveyed, the report showed.
Dongbu Group added the most affiliates with 15, followed by Hyundai Motor and Samsung with 14 and 12, respectively. Lotte and POSCO also added 11 new affiliates each, the report showed.
Currently, SK has the largest number of affiliates with 90. Lotte, Samsung and GS came next with 83, 80 and 73 affiliates under their wings, according to the report.
