Iran's Top Military Commander Stresses Armed Forces' Obedience to Leader

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's top military commander reiterated the Armed Forces' allegiance and full obedience to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
"We stand committed to obedience to the Vali Faqih (religious leadership) of our time in all fields, military or cultural," Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said in a ceremony to commemorate the Week of Sacred Defense.

September 22 is the start of the Sacred Defense Week in Iran which marks the anniversary of the beginning of Iraq's imposed war against the country in 1980 and the start of Iranian sacrifices and defense against the Iraqi invaders who were backed up by over 57 world countries, including all powers.

General Firouzabadi pointed to the victories achieved by the Iranian forces during the 8-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s, and described obedience to religious leadership as the main cause of such remarkable triumphs.

According to Iran's Constitution, the Supreme Leader is the commander-in-chief of all the country's Armed Forces, including the Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Basij (volunteer) forces and the Law Enforcement Police.

Ayatollah Khamenei in a message on the occasion of the start of the Week of Sacred Defense honored the country's martyrs, specially those killed in the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, and said their blood has given a new life to the Islamic Ummah.

"Today, once again the value of the struggles of our dear martyrs was displayed with the progress and shining of our country and with its deep effect on the awakening of the world of Islam," Ayatollah Khamenei said in his message on Thursday.

"And we thank God that the blood of our martyrs was not lost and these devotions gave a new life to the Islamic Ummah," he added.
