Thai company invests US$1 million in palm trees plantation in Laos

VIENTIANE,SEPT.28(KPL)- The Lao Agrotech Company Limited of Thailand has invested US$1 million in the plantation of palm trees on 200 ha in Nasaythong and Park Ngum districts in Vientiane Capital.
The palm oil is a high market demand currently, accounting for 68.1 %, said the Consultant President of Lao Agrotech Company, Mr. Nathaphom Panjasila.
The markets in China and India had a purchasing power for around 100 million tonnes palm oil by 2015.
Mr. Nathaphom who is also Director of Houmgheuang Lao Company explained that presently our company is propagating the palm sapling and arranging 200 ha for planting palm trees in two districts of Nasaythong and Park Ngum.
In addition, the company has planned to concede more lands for further to grow the palm trees on 500-1,000 ha in the future, which will be able to supply adequately for palm oil markets.
Mr. Nathaphom confirmed that we will build a US$5-million factory for palm oil processing in Feuang district of Vientiane province in the next five years.
The palm trees will bear fruits after 30 months and then its produce can supply to the factory.
Its palm fruits also can produce for food, animal feed, fiber, organic fertilizer and bio-fuel, he added.
So far, the Lao Agrotech Company Limited is authorised to import the vegetable oil is produced from palm tree for distributing in Laos.
Our imported products saw good response to the local market leading to our decision making of investment in palm tree plantation for producing vegetable oil in Laos, he explained.
