International Congress of Sports Law convenes in Moscow
MOSCOW, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow is hosting an international Congress of sports law for the first time. It's expected to adopt an international sport charter and pass a decision to set up a centre for the protection of rights and interests of athletes.
Dimitrios Panagiotopoulos, the president of the International
Association of Sports Law, told a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday that the forum's agenda included a wide range of issues such as doping, insurance of athletes, security at sport competitions and ways of settling disputes in sport.
One hundred fifty delegates from 30 countries, including the United States, Britain, China, Australia and South Korea, are taking part in the Congress that will work until September 30.
Dimitrios Panagiotopoulos said that this year would see the 20th
anniversary of the foundation of the International Association of Sports Law. Symbolically, this date coincides with the adoption of one of the key documents in the field of sport - the International Charter. He expressed the hope that the four-day discussion of the Charter was going to be fruitful. Valuable remarks and vital amendments were made to the document right on the first day.
"This congress is an important event in the sport world. It's a good platform for sharing views and experience, for holding discussions and getting to know what progress has been made in sports law," said Vladimir Sarayev, the head of the legal department of the Continental Hockey League(KHL).
