Finnish PM to pay short working visit to St. Petersburg

HELSINKI, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki
Katainen will pay a short working visit to St. Petersburg on Thursday to discuss Finland's cooperation with Russia's northern capital.
The Finnish government press service told Itar-Tass that the Finnish premier was travelling to St. Petersburg to participate in events devoted to the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Group of Finnish Advisors that has been operating in St. Petersburg since 1997. Jyrki Katainen will also meet the city's new Governor Georgy Poltavchenko and visit the House of Finland in the centre of St. Petersburg.
This is Katainen's first visit to St. Petersburg in his capacity as prime minister. He and Governor Georgy Poltavchenko will discuss the state and prospects for developing relations between Russia's northern capital and Finland.
In 2010, the trade turnover between St. Petersburg and Suomi stood at 1.69 billion U.S. dollars.
Last year, Finland was twelfth in terms of its investments in the
economy of St. Petersburg. By January 1, 2011, according to the St.
Petersburg government, the volume of Finnish investments had reached 873.8 million dollars, of which 666.3 million dollars are direct investments.
The Group of Finnish Advisors is supposed to assist in creating a
favourable investment climate in St. Petersburg for attracting foreign and Russian capital. It comprises the heads of major Finnish companies as well as representatives of the mayor's office of Turku, a twin city of St. Petersburg, representatives of leading Finnish concerns and the State Railways of Finland.
The Group of Finnish Advisors helps solving St. Petersburg's social tasks. Its members have carried out many projects in the sphere of mobile communication, the food industry and construction.
In 2007, the Group helped modernizing the city's water purification installations.
