Russia's first festival of equitation held in Grozny
GROZNY, September 29 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's first festival of
equitation was held in the Chechen capital of Grozny on Wednesday. Teams from Moscow, Volgograd and North Ossetia arrived in Grozny to demonstrate their horseback-riding skills. A total of 55 horsemen and 30 horses of the Budyonovskaya, Donskaya and Kabardinskaya breeds took part in the show.
The idea to hold this festival of equitation belongs to Chechen
President Ramzan Kadyrov.
"This is the first festival of this kind in Russia. The residents and guests of Grozny saw spectacular horseback stunts in the very heart of the city," Isa Khadzhimuradov, a Chechen parliament deputy, said.
Sergei Khlebnikov, the commandant of the Moscow Kremlin and the
president of the Kremlin School of Equitation, addressed the public. He said that he had come to Chechnya together with his pupils at the call of the heart and a burning desire to strengthen contacts among various horseback-riding schools and representatives of Chechen equitation clubs. Khlebnikov thanked the Chechen people for their warm welcome and hospitality and wished peace and prosperity to the Chechen Republic.
In his speech Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said that equestrian competitions were very popular in Chechnya while the republic's horses have won prestigious world races.
"Chechens have been breeding horses since olden days. Before the war broke out the republic used to have its own stud farms. I am sure that we are going to revive this tradition soon and I believe that this festival of equitation will become an annual international event. Its aim is to preserve national cultures and traditions, strengthen inter-ethnic relations and popularise the art of equitation," Kadyrov emphasized.
The honorary escort of the presidential regiment and the Kremlin
School of Equitation demonstrated a "Reviving Traditions" stunt program to the public. After that Ossetian riders and Cossacks from the Volgograd region (the town of Surovikino) demonstrated their stunts.
At the end of the show Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov received a
memorable cup from the Kremlin School of Equitation. Lieutenant-General Sergei Khlebnikov was decorated with medal "For Merits to the Chechen Republic" to commend his efforts to develop and popularise horseback riding and contribution to preserving national cultures and traditions.
The head of the Chechen Republic also decreed to present a note of thanks to the Kremlin School of Equitation, a horseback-riding school named after General Baklanov and the Ossetian equestrian theatre "Narty".
