Zhukov signs Russia's official application for 2012 Olympics
MOSCOW, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov signed Russia's official application to the International Olympic Committee for participation in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London at a meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee's executive board on Wednesday.
Zhukov congratulated Honorary President of the Russian Olympic
Committee Vitaly Smirnov on the 40th anniversary of his membership of the International Olympic Committee.
"Over 117 years of existence of the International Olympic Committee only 15 of its members have had a big work record in it," Zhukov went on to say.
Vitaly Smirnov was a member of the IOC Executive Board for a total of 20 years. He was the vice-president under three IOC presidents: Lord Michael Killanin, Juan Antonio Samaranch and Jacques Rogge.
In the meantime, Nikolai Tolstykh, the former head of the Professional Football League, was appointed executive director of the Russian Olympic Committee.
