By Lee Haye-ah
SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere will visit Seoul next week to discuss boosting bilateral trade, and other regional and global issues, the foreign ministry here said Thursday.
During a three-day visit starting Monday, Vanackere will meet with his South Korean counterpart, Kim Sung-hwan, for discussions on bolstering bilateral cooperation in the wake of a Korea-European Union free trade agreement that took effect in July, the ministry said in a press release.
The two sides will also discuss a wide range of bilateral and global issues, including the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East, nuclear security and development cooperation, it said.
"We expect this visit to be an opportunity to assess our two countries' friendly cooperative relations, as we mark this year the 110th anniversary since establishing diplomatic ties," the ministry said. "At the same time, we expect it to reconfirm our two nations' commitment to continuously developing these relations."
Vanackere will be visiting South Korea for the first time since taking office in November 2009. He also plans to meet with South Korea's trade minister, Kim Jong-hoon, its new unification minister, Yu Woo-ik, and representatives from both local and European businesses here, according to the ministry.
