Campbell to visit S. Korea next week
By Lee Chi-dong
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Kurt Campbell, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, will travel to South Korea next week to discuss President Lee Myung-bak's upcoming state visit to the U.S., the department announced Thursday.
He is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on Friday after visiting Japan, it added.
In Seoul, Campbell "will meet with senior Korean officials, including from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in advance of Lee's upcoming State Visit to the United States," the department said in a press release.
Campbell's trip to Seoul also comes after the top nuclear envoys from South and North Korea had denuclearization talks in Beijing last week. Washington is apparently weighing additional high-level talks with Pyongyang.
Campbell will then travel to Hong Kong, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and mainland China through Oct. 11, according to the department.
