Vientiane Capital needs 300 billion kip for flood recovery

(KPL) Vientiane Capital will use almost 300 billion kip to implement its three urgent main projects to recover the flood aftermaths.
Mr. Sinlavong Khoudphaythoune, Mayor of Vientiane, disclosed on 23 September that the Vientiane administration was now concentrating on restoring Vientiane after flooding by using three main measures: improving the livelihood of flood victims, renovation base infrastructure and control of goods price in the market.
He added that the administration had to use about 6 billion for the purchase of rice to help flood victims in poorest areas, and a large sum for the renovation of basic infrastructure including 37 billion kip for road repair in outskirts areas of Vientiane, and 18 billion kip for 6 points of the national road.
More than 97 billion kip is also needed to repair agricultural production base and irrigation system, 561 million kip of electricity system, 1 billion kip of school re-construction and 500 million kip for health sector, said Mr. Sinlavong.
He continued that more than 146 million kip would be needed for goods price control, 16 billion kip for embankment and 100 billion kip for water pump installation projects. Mr. Sinlavong also pointed out a number of damages caused by the flood during August, which caused hardship to a number of local poor people. At the time, 8 districts with 160 villages were under the water.
On this occasion, Mr. Sinlavong also disclosed that so far Vientiane capital has received about 2.2 billion kip of donations.
