Iran Exports 3.5bln cm of Natural Gas to Northwestern Neighbors in 6 Months
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran has exported 3.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to its Northern and Northwestern neighbors during the last 6 months, an Iranian official said on Saturday.
Manager of the Zone 8 of Gas Transfer Operation Yadollah Baibardi said that 3.5bcm from the 10.5bcm of the natural gas that has been transferred through the region was exported to Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21- September 22).
Zone 8 covers transfer of natural gas to Iran's Northern provinces of Gilan, Zanjan, Araddabil and Northwestern provinces of East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan and the Western province of Kurdistan.
Baibardi stated that Iran is exporting gas to Armenia through Nourdoz region, and from Jolfa to Nakhichevan in Azerbaijan and through Bazargan region to Turkey.
"Based on the agreement with Turkey we should export 10bcm of gas to Turkey each year and we exported 8bcm of gas to the country last year," he stated.
Earlier in August, Head of the Turkish Parliament's Energy Committee Mahmut Mucahit Findikli stressed the importance of his country's energy ties with Iran, and underlined Ankara's resolve to maintain and boost trade and energy ties with Tehran.
The lawmaker also announced that the volume of its gas imports from Iran has increased by 7% in the first six months of the current year.
Iran exported a daily average of more than 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey in 2010, which increased around 7 percent in the first half of 2011.
