Iranian FM Blasts Western Media Attempts to Promote Iranophobia

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian top diplomat Ali Akbar Salehi lambasted the attempts made by the western media to spread Iranophobia in the region and the world, and said the move is part of a plot hatched by the enemy to derail the world public opinion from the realities of the country.
"Certain western media attempt to derail the public opinion from the truth by distorting and fabricating realities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and promoting Iranophobia," Salehi said, addressing a large number of US elites, researchers and university professors in New York.

He underlined that the West's incorrect attitude towards the Islamic Republic has never yielded any result, and said the West should resort to interaction, talks and cooperation policy and use Iran's capacities and potentials to secure the interests of the countries, the region and the world.

Salehi also stressed Iran's policy of developing relations with other countries on equal footings and based on mutual respect.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the West has hatched plots to portray Iran as an aggressive country to spread Iranophobia in the region.

In relevant remarks in April, Supreme Leader's Advisor for Military Affairs Major General Seyed Yahya Rahim Safavi said that the US, Israel and their western allies are seeking to spread Iranophobia in the region as a strategy to sow discord between Iran and Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, in an effort to make up for the losses they have incurred due to the recent and current uprisings and change of regimes in the region.

In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has been sweeping the Arab world.

In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

In February, another Arab revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak after three decades of his authoritarian rule.

Other revolutions are erupting in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while other anti-government unrests have just started in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and Algeria.
