Iraqi Speaker Stresses Tehran, Baghdad's Key Role in Foiling Enemy Plots

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi warned that enemies are seeking to sow discord among Muslim nations, and stressed that Tehran and Baghdad play a crucial role in defusing such divisive plots.
Speaking at a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here in Tehran on Saturday evening, Nujaifi noted, "Enemies of the Islamic Ummah (community) are trying to enflame the fire of sedition and conflict among Muslims, and leaders in the Islamic world have a heavy responsibility for confronting such moves."

"Given the role and the positions of Iran and Iraq, the two countries bear a great responsibility for confronting seditious moves in Islamic world," he added.

Elsewhere, he noted the theme of the Tehran conference, and described Palestine as "the fundamental issue of the Islamic world".

He further thanked Iran for its support for the Palestinian nation's cause and rights.

Nujaifi is in Tehran to part take in the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada.

Parliamentary delegations from Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Paraguay, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Comoros, Malawi, Egypt, Oman, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Malaysia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Sudan, Bolivia, Caucasus, Hungary, Colombia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan are present in the two-day conference.
