Kia Motors sales up 16.4 pct in Sept.
SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, said Tuesday that its sales in September rose 14.6 percent on-year, fueled by solid demand in both domestic and overseas markets.
The company sold 213,102 vehicles overall last month, compared with 183,054 vehicles a year earlier. Domestic sales rose 4.4 percent to 41,952 units last month, with exports shooting up 19.8 percent to 171,150 units. Exports include cars made in South Korea and overseas plants.
The carmaker said monthly sales were fueled by solid demand for its K5 mid-size sedan, Sportage R compact sport utility vehicle and Sorento R models.
In the first nine months of the year, Kia posted overall sales exceeding 1.85 million units. Domestic sales rose 4.4 percent on-year to 367,614 units in the January-September period, with overseas shipments surpassing 1.48 million units, up 29.4 percent from the year before.
