Kumho Tire-sponsored car team wins German endurance race

SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Yonhap) -- Kumho Tire Co., South Korea's second largest tire maker, said Tuesday that a racing team it sponsors won the annual German car endurance championship held in Nurburg, Germany.
The company said cars operated by the Peugeot RCZ team that used its Ecsta S700 tires came in first and second place in the end of round eight of the Endurance Racing Championship Nurburgring.
The race that began on Sept. 24 is a 10-race series that checks the endurance of cars, tires and drivers' skill. The race compels cars and drivers to complete a 1,000 kilometer circuit in six hours over a 25.4 kilometer-long curbing track, with global tiremakers such as Michelin and Dunlop sponsoring racing teams to highlight their products.
Kumho said because of the Peugeot RCZ team's sterling performance, it has secured the overall championship trophy regardless of the two remaining races.
"The win in the tough endurance race spotlights the excellent quality of the Kumho tires," the company said. It added Kumho will continue to develop high-quality tires that can bolster consumer trust and satisfaction.
