GM Korea sales up 10.2 pct in Sept.
SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Yonhap) -- GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co., said Tuesday that its sales in September rose 10.2 percent from a year earlier on solid consumer demand.
GM Korea sold 65,541 vehicles last month, compared with 59,470 units tallied for the same month in 2010, the company said in a statement. The figure also represents a gain of 20.4 percent from 54,444 units sold in August.
Domestic sales surged 17.3 percent on-year to 11,754 units last month, with exports gaining 10.2 percent to 53,787 units.
The carmaker said sales of its Chevrolet brand cars, such as the Spark small-sized car, Orlando multi-purpose vehicle and Cruze compact, all did well last month. Strong sales are helping to fuel better consumer recognition of the Chevrolet brand, which could help sales down the road.
In the first nine months of the year, overall sales rose 9.8 percent on-year to 600,203 units. Domestic sales rose 20.6 percent to 105,237 units with exports gaining 7.7 percent to 494,966 vehicles, the company said.
