Seoul shares down 1.88 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 1.88 percent lower late Wednesday morning due to the renewed European crisis including a downgrade of Italy's rating, analysts said.
After bobbing in and out of positive territory, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 32.14 points to 1,674.05 as of 11:20 a.m.
Big-cap shares were mixed. Samsung Electronics, the world's second-largest mobile phone maker, edged up 1.33 percent, while leading steelmaker POSCO dropped 3.26 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,191.95 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 2.05 won from Tuesday's close.
