Russia-2018 organizing committee to meet in Kazan Wed

KAZAN, October 5 (Itar-Tass) - The regional organizing committee of
the Russia-2018 meets here on Wednesday for the first time to review
preparations for the 2018 World Soccer Cup Finals (WSCF).
An official in the press service of the Tatarstan Ministry for Youth
Affairs, Sports, and Tourism has told Itar-Tass that the organizing
committee is headed by General Director Alexei Sorokin. The Committee
comprises 18 specialists.
The organizing commmittee members are to meet with Tatarstan's
President Rustam Minnikhanov to discuss how Kazan, along with preparing
for the 2013 World Student Games, is getting ready for the 2018 WSCF.
Theconstruction of the Volga area's largest soccer stadium seating
45,000 is under way on the bank of Kazanka River, a tributary of the
Volga. The assembly of metallic structural elements up to 50 metres high
with four tiers of the grandstands has been started. The facility is to be
ready for use towards the end of 2012. The opening and closing ceremonies
of the Student Games will be held there in summer 2013.
Kazan also has available another five soccer stadiums which are being
reconstructed.
The Russia-2018 organizing committee members will also familiarize
themselves with hotel accommodation resources, arrangements for spare-time
activities of sportsmen and guests of the WSCF.
Those present at the committee meeting are to discuss safety measures,
the development of the infrastructure of the millennium-old city,
including that of the city transport.
Kazan Mayor Ilsura Metshina said it is planned to build a second line
of subway by the opening of the WSCF to link downtown Kazan with the
soccer stadium currently under construction.
