Seoul shares up 3.86 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 3.86 percent higher late Thursday morning as investor sentiment was boosted by rallies in U.S. and European stocks.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 64.36 points to 1,730.88 as of 11:20 a.m.
Tech shares led the upbeat move, with Samsung Electronics, the world's second-largest handset maker, gaining 4.28 percent and its rival LG Electronics soaring 7.34 percent partly on reports that U.S. tech giant Apple's founder Steve Jobs has died.
The local currency was trading at 1,186.15 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 3.95 won from Wednesday's close.
