S. Korea, Colombia to hold 5th round of free trade talks

SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Colombia will hold their fifth round of free trade negotiations in Seoul next week in an effort to hash out outstanding issues, the trade ministry said Thursday.
The five-day meeting, slated to start on Monday, will be focused on such issues as a goods agreement, investment, intellectual property, greater market access and trade remedies, the ministry said.
The two countries first launched the free trade agreement (FTA) talks in December 2009, with the latest negotiations held in October last year. In their inter-session meeting in February, both sides finalized 12 chapters of the agreement, including services, telecommunications and technical barriers to trade.
Bilateral trade nearly doubled from a year earlier to US$1.82 billion in 2010. South Korea's main export items to Colombia include cars and electronic goods, while imports include coffee and mineral resources such as coal and nickel.
South Korea has an FTA with Chile, which took effect in 2004, and struck a free trade deal with Peru last August, paving the way to tap deeper into the South American market.
