Loss of iconic innovator

The Korea Times
(Yonhap) - The death of Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder and former CEO, is a great loss of a creative genius not only for the American firm and the IT industry, but also for consumers across the globe. He has been an icon of innovations, creativeness and a challenging spirit. Now he has gone but his legacy will not fade.
It is no exaggeration that Jobs revolutionized people???s way of life and modern culture with novel products such as the iPod, iPhone and iPad. He could be compared with the Wright brothers who invented the airplane. He was even described as the Michelangelo of the digital age. Apple would not have been a success story without Jobs.
It is true that Jobs enriched and improved the lives of people across the world through his inspiring ideas. As Apple said in a statement announcing his death on Wednesday, his brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations. He more than deserves praise for his achievements.
Can we imagine what the world would have looked like if there had not been such a marvelous innovator as Steve Job? Consumers would not have been able to use state-of-the-art handsets or other smart digital gadgets as early as they could. Jobs contributed to speeding up the communication revolution.
No other figure had a greater impact on the people than Jobs. His greatness lies in his ceaseless efforts to change the world, lifestyle and the way of thinking. He made no compromise in his pursuit of excellence, perfection, inspiration, imagination and creativeness.
Some skeptics may argue that Apple did not invent computers or even smartphones under Jobs. But, they should not play down Job???s crucial role of making his company reinvent those gadgets to allow consumers to make the best use of them easily and conveniently.
We can also learn from the high-tech maestro that failure is but a stepping stone to success. Forced out from Apple due to an internal power struggle a decade after he started the computer-making firm with his high school friend in Silicon Valley in 1975, Job wasn???t frustrated in his quest for success.
Korean scientists, technicians and businessmen must have such a challenging spirit to take advantage of failure. They should no longer be afraid of failure. They need to practice a can-do spirit as nothing is impossible. Jobs has passed away, but his legacy will linger in the hearts of everyone living in this rapidly changing information age.
