Seoul shares up 2.87 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 2.87 percent higher late Friday morning on eased European financial woes, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 49.03 points to 1,759.35 as of 11:20 a.m.
Banks led the rally, with Hana Financial Group jumping 4.65 percent and Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) soaring 7.14 percent. Hana will move to complete its purchase of KEB from Lone Star Funds as a Seoul court paved the way for the U.S. equity fund to sell the lender.
The local currency was trading at 1,179.05 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 12.25 won from Thursday's close.
