US to "tighten noose" on Syria with allies.
WASHINGTON, October 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Following the Russian and Chinese
veto on the UN Security Council resolution on Syria the United States will
work to engage partners and allies to mount pressure on President Bashar
al-Assad.
"I think our focus now will be on continuing to work with countries in
the region, allies and partners of the United States who join us in
wanting to send a strong message to the Assad regime and to tighten the
noose economically and politically," US State Department spokeswoman
Victoria Nuland told a regular briefing on Thursday.
Asked whether the United States is working to make Russia and China
re-think, Nuland said: "In diplomacy, avenues are rarely closed: but at
the moment our efforts are focused elsewhere."
