Lee June-hyoung becomes first S. Korean male to win int'l figure skating medal

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean figure skater Lee June-hyoung finished third at the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix event in Milano, Italy, Saturday, becoming the first Korean male to win a medal at an ISU-sanctioned competition.
Lee, 14, earned a total of 176.48 points to rank behind the winner Yan Han of China, who had 219.37, and runner-up Jason Brown of the U.S., who put up 194.28.
Lee had ranked fourth in the field after Friday's short program with 57.98, and earned 118.50 in free skating to reach the podium.
Lee started out with a successful triple flip-triple toe loop combination and then a triple loop, earning an extra 0.5 points for execution. He lost some points with later jumps but managed solid spins and steps for the third-place finish.
The Milano event was the sixth leg of the ISU's Junior Grand Prix series. In Latvia last month, Lee scored 171.75 points to finish fourth.
Of South Korea's female skaters, Kim Yu-na, a former Olympic gold medalist and a world champion, and junior skater Kim Hae-jin have won medals at an ISU event.
