Senior Iranian, Turkish Officials Discuss Mutual Cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Mohammad Ali Fathollahi in a meeting in Ankara on Friday conferred on ways of expanding mutual cooperation and exchanged views over the latest developments in the region.
At the meeting, the Iranian deputy foreign minister noted the good and friendly relations between Iran and Turkey, and stressed the need for the further expansion of ties between the two Muslim neighboring states.
He further pointed to the developments in the region, and expressed the hope that the regional countries would resolve their problems to pave the ground for the establishment of peace, stability, security and tranquility in the region.
The Turkish top diplomat also stressed that the region is living in an epoch-making era, and added, "Future infrastructures of the region are being created, and Iran and Turkey, as two major regional powers can play effective roles in the creation of these infrastructures through mutual cooperation.
Iran and Turkey have in recent years increased their cooperation in all the various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture.
The two sides have exchanged several politico-economic delegations during the last few months.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani earlier in February underlined the need for the removal of obstacles to the further expansion of bilateral economic ties with Iran in a bid to boost trade cooperation between the two countries.
"The level of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is not appropriate for the age-old ties of the two nations and we should remove the obstacles to the development of mutual cooperation between Iran and Turkey," Gul said at the time.
