Second conference of Iranian and world poets kicks off
TEHRAN,Oct.9(MNA)--The second conference of Iranian and world poets kicked off here on Saturday at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall with Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini in attendance.
The Iranian and foreign participants first visited the Carpet Museum of Iran, and were later taken to Kuhsar Restaurant for dinner in Darband, a mountainous region in northern Tehran famous for hiking and its cool fresh air.
Several programs are also arranged including poetry recitation sessions to be held at the universities of Tarbiat Modarres and Allameh Tabatabaie as well as the Iranian Artists Forum.
There are also interpreters at the conference to simultaneously translate the poetry being recited, head of Persian Language and Literature Research Center of Tarbiat Modarres University Ebrahim Khodayar said.
This will provide an occasion for poets who have had few opportunities to conduct research in poetry to become more familiar with the contemporary poetry of the world, he added.
Samir Arshadi, a member of the Syria-based Arab Authors Union and professor of Persian language at Kuwait University invited to the conference, said that such programs help familiarize world poets with the mysticism and spirituality hidden in Persian poetry.
Great Persian poets like Hafez and Sadi have represented the concepts of humanity, opposition to oppression, and freedom for people, and they need to be translated into many other languages or even need to be taught at universities, he added.
The conference will continue in Shiraz on October 11 where the guests will be visiting several historical places such as Hafez’s Mausoleum, Persepolis, and Vakil Bazaar. It is also expected that they will be reciting their poetry.
