Seoul shares up 0.51 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 0.51 percent higher late Monday morning as agreements from the Germany-France summit helped investors brush off concerns about troubled eurozone banks, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 8.93 points to 1,768.7 as of 11:20 a.m.
Blue-chip technology shares fueled the KOSPI's rise. Market bellwether Samsung Electronics was up more than 2 percent and LG Display, the world's No. 2 display panel maker, spiked more than 6 percent on expectations that its earnings hit bottom.
Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction skyrocketed by the daily limit as investors bet that management-labor union conflicts would finally come to an end.
The local currency was trading at 1,173.85 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 3.85 won from Friday's close.
