Turkey's EU minister opens culture center at Fojnica
SARAJEVO (A.A) - October 10, 2011 - Turkey's European Union Minister Egemen Bagis on Sunday inaugurated a culture center constructed by Istanbul's Umraniye Municipality in Bosnia-Herzegovina's Fojnica city.
Bagis was accompanied by Bakir Izetbegovic, son of the late Bosnian president, and Bosnian member of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the opening ceremony.
Bagis later visited a historical monastery in Fojnica where Ottoman Sultan Fatih the Conqueror handed a "Ahdname," or an oath firman to grant Franciscans independence and provide protection after the conquest of Bosnia in May, 1463.
The culture center in Fojnica will offer courses on Turkish language as well as on traditional Turkish handicraft.
