S. Korean builders' domestic orders jump 74.7 pct in Aug.
SEOUL (Yonhap) - Domestic orders won by South Korean construction companies shot up 74.7 percent in August from a year earlier as major local firms placed massive orders for facility expansions, a report said Tuesday.
According to the report by the Construction Association of Korea (CAK), local builders clinched a combined 8.54 trillion won (US$7.34 billion) worth of new orders in August.
Orders from the private sector more than doubled to 6.54 trillion won over the cited period, with those from the public sector orders rising 11 percent on-year to 2.01 trillion won, the report showed.
The CAK said the local construction market, however, is not expected to improve greatly in the near future due to global economic turmoil and the South Korean government's moves to curb snowballing household debt.
