Production of gold in Magadan region at 15 tons since Jan 1.


MAGADAN, October 11 (Itar-Tass) - A total of 15.2 tons of gold and 527
tons of silver have been produced in Russia's Far-Eastern Magadan region
since the beginning of the year, the regional department for natural
resources said in a report.
Compared with the same period a year ago, the output of gold has
increased by 1.5 tons and the output of silver, by more than 33 tons.
Hardrock gold stood totals about 5 tons and hardrock silver, more
than 525 tons.
As much as 10.5 tons of gold and 1.5 tons of silver has been produced
at placers.
Gold miners of the Yagodnoe district scored the biggest production
successes by extracting 4.7 tons of gold.
The Magadan region, colloquially known in Russia as Kolyma in line
with the name of a major river flowing there, boasts a very big potential
for teh production of precious metals in the coming years.
Regional Governor Nikolai Dudov says the commissioning of new gold
deposits in this land of harsh icy winters will help raise the annual
extraction of gold up to a hundred tons.
