Kaliningrad Region Days festival to open in Sweden Wed.

KALININGRAD, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - A Kaliningrad Region Days
festival opens in Sweden on Wednesday. A delegation of officials of the
regionak government and legislature, those of municipalities, business
organizations, scientific and art institutions are to participate in the
festival's events, an official in the press service of the regional
government has told Itar-Tass.
It is planned to hold a bilateral discussion of possibilities for
establishing a sea transportation service between Kaliningrad Region and
the Blekinge County with the signing of a Memorandum on Cooperation in the
fields of tourism, youth policy and the development of twinning relations
between the municipalities of the two regions.
Participants in a Russo-Swedish roundtable meeting are to discuss
prospects for cooperation between Kaliningrad Region and Blekinge, the
development of the transport logistics sector of Kalinigrad Region, as
well as the themes "Swedish National Innovation Strategy' and "Baltiisk
Marine Science Park".
A pavilion under the motto "Kaliningrad Region is Your Opportunity to
Do Business in Russia" will function at an annual industrial exhibition
of Karlskrona municipality. It is also planned to sign an agreement on
cooperation between Kaliningrad Region State Technical University and the
Blekinge Institute of Technology.
Sweden is among Kaliningrad Region's foreign partners, relations with
which develop dynamically both at the political level and in the economic
sphere. Most active contacts are maintained with Bekinge County, with
which the region cooperates in farming, culture, education, and and
transport. The region develops partnership with Gotland in the sphere of
tourism, ecology, and culture. Joint projects in the social welfare sector
and health care are being implemented with Skane Province, contacts in
nature conservation and energy are maintained with Stockholm.
Alla Ivanova, regional minister and director of the regional agency
for international and interregional contacts, has said, the Kaliningrad
Region's presentations which have already become regular are one of
effective mechanisms for cooperation to promote the goods made by
Kaliningrad region-based companies to the international market. Over the
past five years such presentations have been a success in various regions
of Lithuania, Germany, Israel, Poland, France, the Netherlands, Italy,
Armenia, Portugal, Latvia, and Belarus.
