Construction of fertilizer complex to begin in Tatarstan Wed.
KAZAN, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - A large-scale international project
is to the implemented in the Republic of Tatarstan: Japan, China, and
Russia will participate in building an Ammonium complex for the production
of mineral fertilizers.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, speaking during a meeting with
Chikahito Harada, the Ambassador of Japan to Russia, in the Kazan Kremlin
on Tuesday, said, "The construction of a new modern enterprise will begin
in Mendeleyevsk on Wednesday. The project has been approved by the
leadership of the country. This is an important strategic facility".
The enterprise, to be fitted out with the newest technology and
equipment, will turn out ammonia and carbamide as ingredients of a mineral
fertilizer, 2,050 tonnes per 24 hours, said Rinat Khanbikov, Chairman of
the Board of Directors of the Ammonium Company. If necessary the same
production lines will also turn out methanol that is used for the
generation of biofuel and synthetic rubber varieties, he added.
The construction of the chemical complex on the right-hand bank of the
Kama River, in Mendeleyevsk, will be carried out by Japanese and Chinese
contractors. The consortium is headed by Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries Company. The China National Chemical Engineering Corporation
(CNCEC) will be the coordinator of the construction.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Tatneft oil company, which is
the curator of the project, and CNCEC was also signed during the meeting
in the Kazan Kremlin.
