Khabarovsk Terr, Yamagata eager to establish econ ties.

VLADIVOSTOK, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - Khabarovsk Territory and Japan's
Yamagata Prefecture on Wednesday launched talks on the establishment of
economic contacts. A Prefecture delegation, led by Governor Mieko
Yoshimura, arrived in Khabarovsk for this purpose.
Sergei Shchetnev, Vice-Governor of Khabarovsk Territory, speaking
during a meeting with the Japanese delegation, pointed out that Japan is
one of strategic partners of the Territory. In 12010, the Territory's
turnover in trade with Japan ran at almost $249 million, increasing by 39
percent as compared with that in 2009.
Shchetnev described some investment projects, pointing out that
Khabarovsk Territory is one of the most industrially developed Far East
regions oriented towards aircraft construction and shipbuilding. The
region has set about the production of the modern regional airliner
Supejet-100 and attracts orders in other sectors as well.
"Cooperation with Japan is growing. Its potential is high. We are
prepared to discuss new projects," Vice-Governor Shchetnev said.
For his part, Mieko Yoshimura expressed readiness for the development
of trade relations. The Prefecture is notable for its farming: it grows
fruit, vegetables, and rice. Highly effective technologies in other
economic sectors are being also actively introduced in the Prefecture, he
said.
