Iran dismisses EU sanctions as wrong measure
TEHRAN, Oct.12(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast described the European Union’s decision to expand sanctions against Iranian individuals as a ‘wrong measure’.
According to Reuters, the EU imposed sanctions against 29 Iranian people on Monday, extending the current list targeting individuals allegedly associated with human rights violations to 61.
At a meeting in Luxembourg, EU foreign ministers agreed to impose asset freezes and travel bans on these individuals.
Mehmanparast said that recent sanctions have been imposed to pressure the Iranian nation to relinquish their rights, advising the West to respect the rights of nations and stop meddling in their internal affairs to prepare the ground for the expansion of constructive cooperation.
In addition, he said all the issues facing the international community are rooted in unilateralist policies adopted by certain Western countries.
“We have repeatedly said that the affairs of today’s world could only be managed with participation of all countries,” the spokesman said.
“The era of unilateralism and unipolarity has come to an end. This is the reason why we have proposed that meetings would be held to discuss a range of issues including our country’s nuclear activities and the issue of human rights through a cooperative approach,” he explained.
