Intl aid for Abkhazia cannot match Russia's - president.

SUKHUM, October 13 (Itar-Tass) - Abkhazian President Alexander Ankvab
said international organizations, in a dialogue with Abkhazia, should
"proceed from the principles of equal partnership, and the specifics of
the projects under discussion."
Ankvab said so at a meeting with a UN delegation, led by Assistant UN
Secretary General for Political Affairs Oscar Fernadez-Taranco on
Wednesday.
"It is our firm position," the Abkhazian leader emphasized. Due to the
tremendous damage to the Abkhazian economy, caused by the Georgian
aggression, and protracted post-war isolation, which impeded the
development of the Abkhazian state, the republic is now facing serious
large-scale tasks.
"In this connection, we believe it is inexpedient to waste time
discussing insignificant projects, which are of little interest or use in
the efforts to improve Abkhazia's economic and humanitarian situation,"
information department director Kristian Bzhaniya quoted him as saying.
The president underlined that "the scope of the assistance Russia
provides in various fields and the participation of international
organization in certain humanitarian projects in the republics cannot
compare."
According to Bzhaniya, Ankvab touched upon the Geneva consultations
over security and stability in Transcaucasia. Elaborating on Abkhazia's
position on the issue, the president said the Geneva process was
interested from several points of view, and as long as the interests kept, Abkhazia would continue to participate.
He underlined that the republic's authorities "intend to raise the
issue of the format of Abkhazia's participation in the Geneva
consultations."
The Abkhazian president urged to relay this position to the interested
parties to the Geneva process," Bzhaiya told Itar-Tass.
Also on Wednesday, the UN officials met with Abkhazian Prime Minister
Leonid Lakerbai. "We remember well those who worked as UN secretary
general's envoys in Abkahzia. Of course, our relations had ups and downs,
but the UN mission tried to highlight the situation in the zone of the
Georgian-Abkhazian conflict impartially, although its evaluation was not
always reflected in UN Security Council's resolutions," the premier said.
