UMNO ELECTIONS: MEMBERS URGED TO MAINTAIN SPIRIT OF COMRADESHIP

TANJUNG KARANG (Malaysia), Sept 25 (Bernama) -- United Malays National Organisation (Umno) President Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has reminded party members who wish to contest for posts in the divisional elections next month, to do so
in the spirit of comradeship.

The prime minister said unity should be safeguarded at all times to prevent
a split in the party.

"If we quarrel because of the contest, it will weaken us and this is not
good for the party," he said at the breaking of fast at the Al-Raudah Mosque
here.

Also present at the event organised by the Selangor Umno liaison committee
were Selangor Umno chief Muhammad Muhammad Taib, Entrepreneur and Cooperative
Development Minister Noh Omar, and Abdullah's wife Jeanne Abdullah.

The Umno divisional meetings will take place nationwide from Oct 9 to Nov
9. Umno is the political party leading the ruling Barisan Nasional
coalition.
