Russia, US still at odds over missile defense.

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Senior Russian and U.S. diplomats
discussed missile defense plans for Europe for two days this week, but
contradictions remained, the Russian foreign ministry said late on
Thursday.
The talks between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and
U.S. Under Secretary of State Ellen Tauscher focused on the phased,
adaptive approach for missile defense in Europe.
"It has been stated that essential disagreements remained in the
Russian and U.S. positions. The parties agreed to continue the dialogue,"
the ministry said.
It added the "missile defense issue was considered in detail in the
light of upcoming Russian-American contacts at various levels."
Ryabkov and Tauscher co-chair the working group on arms control and
international security of the Russia-U.S. bilateral presidential
commission. "They discussed practical and applied issues in the missile
defense sphere which are considered in various formats, as well as the
situation with the implementation of the U.S. phased, adaptive approach
for missile defense in Europe," the ministry said
