Russian coach outraged by world gymnastics refereeing.

TOKYO (Itar-Tass) - Russian team coach Valentina
Rodionenko was outraged by refereeing at the world gymnastic championship
where she said the gold medal was "stolen" from Victoria Komova and
awarded to American Jordyn Wieber.
"It's an outrage! Wieber made rude mistakes on uneven bars while
Victoria was flawless in all events, but lost in the final end. The
Italian member of the technical committee even apologized, but it does not
help. They deliberately decreased the points to Komova on uneven bars and
the boom to push Wieber up," she said on Thursday.
"We shall definitely raise the issue of refereeing at the upcoming
congress of the International Gymnastic Federation. Naturally our sport is
subjective, but there should be no situations when the gold is stolen from
the best athlete," Rodionenko said.
Wieber, who finished with 59.382 points, just 0.033 ahead of Komova,
admitted she was surprised to win. "I definitely thought I was going to
end up with silver," the Associated Press quoted her as saying.
Komova said she was very upset. "I regret the coach did not allow me
to do a more complicated vault. I had to take a risk," she said.
Her mother and former world gymnastic champion Vera Kolesnikova
embraced the crying daughter who competed in her first world championship.
"My girl performed flawlessly. As for refereeing: I am sorry, but I don't
want to speak about it," she said.
Komova's personal coach Gennady Yelfimov tried to calm the athlete
saying victories will definitely come. "She did her best and closed the
chapter of her recovery after a trauma. Now she has to progress. Victoria
has a whole life before her," he said.
