Presidential Aide Describes US Accusation against Iran as Means of Diversion
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior aide to the Iranian president strongly rejected the US allegations that Iran had plotted to assassinate a Saudi envoy to Washington, and said the White House seeks to derail the world public opinion from the United States' domestic problems.
"The US and Europe intend to divert the world public opinion from their internal developments by accusing the Islamic Republic of Iran," Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi said on Sunday.
Stressing that the US and Europe are themselves aware of the fake and meaningless nature of their allegations against Tehran, he said, "By means of this scenario, the US administration and Europeans want to decrease the pressures exerted on them by the anti-capitalism movement inside their countries."
The US officials claimed on Tuesday that Iran had plotted to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, with a bomb followed by bomb attacks on the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C. The Washington officials also alleged that bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, had been planned.
US Attorney General Eric Holder claimed in an announcement on Tuesday that the plan was "conceived, sponsored and was directed from Iran" by a faction of the government and called it a "flagrant" violation of US and international law.
Hours later on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast dismissed the US allegations as a prefabricated scenario which is totally unfounded.
"Such worn-out approaches which are based on the old hostile policies of the American-Zionist axis are a humorous act and part of the special scenarios staged and pursued by the enemies of Islam and the region to sow discord (among Muslims)," Mehman-Parast said.
The spokesman, who condemned all terrorist attacks, further said, "Those who have worked out such prefabricated scenarios are after no goal but fomenting strife (among Muslims) and helping the Zionist regime to come out of isolation."
