(KPL) Three southern provinces of Saravane, Sekong and Attapeu are mobilising funds from domestic and foreign businesses for the investment in their socio-economic development projects such as roads, schools and health facilities, has said a local official.
Vice Governor of Attapeu Khenethong Sisouvong, said early this week that these three provinces were in the Economic Triangle Area of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The provinces signed this week a memorandum of understanding to receive the grant aid US$ 7.5 million from the Japanese government to develop their basic infrastructure.
The projects to start implementing next month, with such grant, include the construction of a road in Saravane, one bridge over the Sekong river in Attapeu, seven schools in Saravane, Attapeu and Sekong, two hospitals in Saravane and the development of agriculture in Attapeu and Saravane.
So far in this 2007-08 fiscal year, Attapeu has approved 13 wood processing investment projects including six domestic investments, and the plantation of industrial trees.
Almost 60 investment projects in areas of industry, agriculture-forestry and service are being implemented in Saravane.
Sekong, in addition to the grant from the Japanese government, also receives assistance from the Republic of Korea government for the construction of 10 schools. The province also pays more attention to attracting Vietnamese businesses to investment in planting industrial trees, agriculture and handicraft production.
