Samsung unveils 5-inch Galaxy Note mobile device

SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. on Friday rolled out the 5-inch Galaxy Note, a mobile device that it hopes will help grab the market in between smartphones and tablet PCs.
The Galaxy Note, the latest entry to its flagship Galaxy lineup. is one of the two key mobile devices that Samsung is advancing during the rest of the year, the company's senior executive said at a conference with investors earlier in the day.
The Galaxy Note, which offers the same features as other wireless devices with applications, sports a 5-inch screen that is bigger than the Galaxy S2 smartphone, but smaller than tablet computers.
The touchscreen device is equipped with a digital pen that enables writing on the screen, Samsung said.
The company said it added applications in the Galaxy Note that allow the digital pen to be used, for example, to draw cartoons or highlight a sentence.
Samsung is scheduled to launch the Galaxy Note through 70 mobile operators around the world, it said.
The device will be introduced in Europe next month and then in China, Korea and other Asian countries in coming weeks, it said.
