S. Korea to send tents for Turkish earthquake victims

SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will send some 100 winter tents to Turkey to help victims of this week's massive earthquake that has killed hundreds of people and injured thousands more, Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday.
The tents will be flown out to the Turkish capital of Istanbul in two installments on Friday and Saturday, the ministry said, adding that the aid comes at the request of the Turkish government. From Istanbul, the tents will be transported to the site of the earthquake in southeastern Turkey.
"Our government expects to be able to provide temporary accommodation to more than 1,800 victims of the earthquake, and plans to continue necessary aid through consultations with the Turkish government," the ministry said in a press release.
The 7.2-magnitude earthquake, which struck the province of Van on Sunday, has killed at least 550 people and injured 2,300 others, according to media reports quoting the country's disaster management.
