Get Latest Flood Situation From MKN Portal - Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) - The public can get information on the the latest flood situation nationwide via the National Security Council (MKN) portal launched by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Nov 15. Information Communications and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the portal at the address http://portalbanjir.mkn.gov.my will be updated regularly. "I hope that the cyber society will surf this website regularly to get information other than from RTM, Media Prima and Astro radio stations nationwide. "The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will direct all radio stations to air bulletin on flood once hourly or when new developments emerge." Speaking to reporters after a briefing on the Communication Action Plan For Flood here Wednesday, Rais urged the media to report the flood situation using simple language that rural people can understand. "All the facts reported must be clear and refrain from using jargon that can be confusing. The facts must be investigated to ensure that they are true and not heard from third parties." The media must also be sensitive to issues raised by flood victims especially about the delay in receiving aid as it could help speed up aid. Rais met with representatives of government and private media organisations and flood related agencies including the Meteorological Department and Social Welfare Department. -- BERNAMA
